How to EXERCISE the AMERICAN BULLY

American Bully Exercise

The American Bully is an easy dog to work with and exercise, but caution must be taken as with most dogs with heavier frames and large barrel chest there can be health problems if exercising is done incorrectly or if the dog is not given a brake.  One common cause of death in this breed is "Heat Stroke". So if you are in a hot environment make sure that you keep your bully hydrate while working out or on a dog walk.

We recommend that in order to build trust and respect American bully owners should fine time to walk their dogs.  This is also a great time for bully owners to educate other people about the breed. Walking is also a great way to socialize your bullies.  For Adults we recommend  1 or 2 hours of walks a day. For young growing dogs the best exercise is two 45 minute walks a day, a few games of fetch and mild rope play. After about 7 months old is when you can add new things into your Bullies life that will make exercise so much more fun and will keep your dog going back for more!

The Flirt Pole Flirt Poles are a great way to exercise your dog when you are short of time or short on space. They are fun and interactive. This builds drive and it is a great mental workout for your dog, not only are you building muscles and stamina you are also working the brain which is important to keep your dog in a stable state of mind. This is by far one of our dogs favorite things to do!

    Things You'll Need
1-inch PVC pipe, 3 to 4 ft. long
        Drill
1/8-inch-thick nylon cord, 8 to 10 ft. long
Piece of leather, rawhide or burlap (4 inches by 8 inches), or an old leather glove
        1. Drill a hole in one end of the PVC pipe about ½ inch from the end. Make the hole through one side of the pipe only, not all the way through the second side.
        2. Flip over the PVC pipe and drill a hole at the opposite end, through the opposite side from the initial hole.
        3. Poke one end of the nylon cord up through one of the holes and inside the pipe, and tie a knot at the other end of the cord. Make the knot big enough so that it can't pass through the hole into the pipe.
        4. Thread the cord through the pipe all the way down to the other hole. Poke the cord through that hole, pulling the end of the cord back outside the tube. Tug on the end of the cord to tighten it.
        5. Tie a toy securely to the loose end of the cord. Use a piece of leather, rawhide or burlap, or even an old leather glove.
Take your dog and your flirt pole to a spot with a little space where you can play. Pick a clear spot devoid of objects either one of you could trip or land upon. Hold the flirt pole like a fishing rod, and use it to swing the toy. Lead your dog into furiously flying circles, spins and changes in direction. Snap the toy up into the air so the dog can try to jump up and catch it. Make sure your best friend gets turns at winning the game. Let the dog catch the toy and use praise. Grab the knot and pull some of the cord back through the pipe if you would like to shorten it during some of the play time.

Weight pulling is a great sport for the American bully. This takes a lot of preparation. When starting your dogs into this exercise you will have to make sure that your bully is comfortable with the body harness. They should start pulling light materials and then you can add  weight as they progress.
The best way to exercise a bully is through walking.  This is also the best time to bond with your dog and establish leadership they need. Notorious 360º Bullies follow the ways of Cezar Milan. He recommended that if you can not go out and walk your dog  use a treadmill. This would be perfect if its raining or you are busy with something inside the house.
